Things That Are Awesome: Loading Ready Run
Like most people, I don’t really have any particular affection for Mondays. I would, all things considered, prefer that it be a weekend.
The consistent high point of my Mondays, then, is the new video from the mad geniuses at Loading Ready Run. The short version- they’re a comedy group from the area of Victoria, British Columbia, composed of eight core cast and crew with some friends and relatives, who, a bare minimum of once a week, create, edit, and upload a comedy short video.
This gives them a series of advantages:
- They’re Canadian. Pretty excellent.
- They’re hilarious.
- Being in their early-to-mid twenties, they don’t try to be ‘hip’, and thus totally avoid the “WE MUST BE HIP” vibe. Ironically, they succeed in being hip without visible effort.
- They’re all nerds without taking it overboard. By this I mean they don’t play to the stereotypical coke-bottle glasses, bad-skin, lisping nerd look… they’re just technologically-proficient gamers and are probably (I make no assumptions!) quite fond of literature.
- It’s all free. There’s no $10 membership fee, you don’t get cut off after 30 seconds of video. Click. Watch. Laugh.
You might be guessing from the general feel of this review that I like LRR (as if the title wasn’t a giveaway) and you’d be completely correct. I find them nearly always worth a laugh. Even when I don’t appreciate a given week’s video- it does happen from time to time!- I know there’ll be something different seven days later, and there are some videos that have had me literally gasping for breath from the laughter.
There is a substantial back-archive of videos, and there is a substantial variation between weekly sketches. Worth noting is that their advertising style (a short clip before each video promoting T-shirts, DVDs, or both) is non-abrasive, as the ads themselves typically have a joke attached.
In short, why are you still reading this? Go watch Sound Wars! Go watch Fun with Microwaves! Just GO!

I love LRR too, since you mentioned it once in BA chat.
One question: do you watch Unskippable too, where Graham and Paul talk weird stuff about game trailers or intro sequences?
Absolutely I do! Extra comedy is never bad.
