A Glitch in the System: Overhaul Week, Day 2

by Llanion on January 6th, 2009

As I mentioned a couple weeks back, I had some problems with my computer while applying tweaks. This culminated in yesterday’s excitement, wherein I spent large portions of the day with no internet access, cursing at my machine.

My situation, however, does not appear to be unique. The most popular posts on my site are the Wintergrasp tactics guide and (interestingly enough) my sketchy guide on Ventrilo-when-Running-Under-Linux.

Anyway. That’s where I was yesterday. My (final and relatively complete) success at getting my laptop working correctly yesterday has inspired me to dub this Overhaul Week. This is the week where I spend some time tweaking (I know, bad word) and updating my blog from all aspects. Today’s project is to get the backend updated to the newest version of WordPress and, if I have time, to go through and make sure all entries are tagged correctly.

After that, we’ll see. I do know that I’m unsatisfied with the visual theme of my blog- it’s pretty enough, certainly, but it does make layout a challenge.

And since it’s not a real new year without crazy resolutions, here’s some goals- or at least ideals- for 2009:

  1. Get Friday Foods back on its feet. I have the archives of two or three picture-taking sessions and haven’t gotten the recipes typed up. Bad druid, no cookie.
  2. Get a working e-mail contact! I keep procrastinating on this and it’s a bad thing.
  3. Secret Project: Iron Cow.
  4. Raid-fight guides. Considering the amount of breakdown and analysis I do, not to mention the fact that I’m either an assistant or the Old Man Himself during our guild’s raids, I should probably be passing some of these observations on.
  5. Raid-leading guides. See above- there just aren’t enough resources to tell you just what this is like, what you can expect and, importantly, how to prepare.
  6. More tactics for PVP. This- especially how the battlegrounds work- is something Blizzard just doesn’t have documentation for, and it seems to be something people want.
  7. Site facelift. The layout makes image insets tricky. (Site facelift week?)
  8. Get Phaelia to move me from the Restoration to the Hybrid part of the World Tree. My former policy of “Spec once, don’t change for months” has been absolutely crushed by the harsh reality of “having a viable Heroic Raiding roster”. I cannot wait for dual specs.
  9. Get in on arenas this year! I joined the arena fad late in the last season, and I was what you call a ‘bad’.
  10. Contribute useful information to WoWWiki and Wowhead.
  11. Secret Project: Mad Cow Chronicles II.
  12. Secret Project: Boulevard
  13. Write a WoW addon. Nothing spectacular, just something useful.
  14. Write a web-based calculator or tool. Nothing spectacular, just something useful.
  15. Use more images in posts (which this post, ironically enough, does not feature. Current layout IS to blame).
  16. Use the delayed publish options in Wordpress more. Ideally, I’d like to have a six-post (two week) buffer set up that I can swap posts into and out of as needed.
  17. Edit to add: Try out the Blog Azeroth chat sometime. I have this strange concept in my head that it’s for only ’special’ bloggers, into which category I put, oh, Pike and BRK and Phaelia and Matticus&Co. and Leafy and Bell and Siha and the list goes on but into which category I, myself, do not fall. I’m pretty sure they don’t bite and I could pick their brains get inspiration and feedback from them. You guys don’t bite, do you?
